OHC Registration is Open
April 3, 2019

Dear Opera House Cup Skippers, Captains, and Owners,

We are excited to announce the posting of the Opera House Cup (OHC) Notice of Race and the opening of registration for the 47th Opera House Cup Regatta, August 18, 2019. We look forward to welcoming you.

Some key points to consider:

  • The Opera House Cup continues its tradition to require wooden hulls and to not allow spinnakers. The OA intends to maintain the long tradition of the OHC cruising course around Nantucket Sound. The OA may use its discretion to make exceptions for eligibility.

  • Registration for the Nantucket Regatta, August 16-17, 2019, will be opening soon. The Nantucket Regatta has no limitations on hull material and encourages spinnakers. We welcome all yachts over 24' to compete. The courses will be racing courses, such as windward/leeward and windward/leeward with reaches that generally adhere to the 1/3 VMG upwind, 1/3 reaching and 1/3 VMG downwind design of the CRF MkII rating rule. We will have special courses for schooners and maxi yachts as needed.

  • The Opera House Cup and the Nantucket Regatta are part of the 2019 Classic Yachts Challenge Series, organized by the Classic Yacht Owners Association.

  • We are pleased to offer a limited number of complementary moorings available for boats <60' LOA, registered in the OHC and the Nantucket Regatta. Please let us know if you need a mooring on your registration form. Boats over 60' need to make their own reservations with Nantucket Moorings or the Nantucket Boat Basin. Moorings, dock space and the anchorage are all extremely limited, so make your reservation as early as possible.

  • Please indicate on the registration form if you are interested in showing your boat for the Classic Yacht Exhibition on August 17, 2019.

  • If you haven't already done so, you will need to update your CRF MkII rating for 2019. You can register for the OHC prior to receiving your new rating, and we will update your rating once it is available.

  • We welcome the schooners and will once again give them their own start in both the Opera House Cup and the Nantucket Regatta.

  • There will be a separate check-in boat for the Opera House Cup, which will be anchored between the end of the jetties and the signal boat/start area.

  • All race documents and information will be posted on the digital notice board on the OHC website for improved communication of information.

  • The Town of Nantucket has allowed us to slightly increase the size of the OHC Awards Party, so you should be able to purchase enough tickets for your crew. Please let us know if you need additional tickets. The party is still limited to OHC competitors, sponsors and key volunteers.

Nantucket Race Week and the Opera House Cup are the primary fundraising events for Nantucket Community Sailing, and allow NCS to teach 1,000 kids to sail and provide $150,000 in financial aid and free sailing to underserved children and adults each year. Please consider a sponsorship or Friends of the Cup donation, and thank you for your support.

Best regards,

The Opera House Cup Committee
