Nantucket Race Week is an eight-day experience that marshals the entire Nantucket community together in a fun-filled week of regattas, awards ceremonies, and parties. The races provide sport for everyone from young dinghy sailors and families in the household one design to grand prix racers at the very top of their profession. The racing begins on Saturday, August 13, 2011 with events scheduled daily through Sunday, August 21, 2011.   We welcome sailors of all levels to participate in our events, and want to extend a special thank you to our visiting teams -- 12 Metre, IOD, PHRF, and classic wooden boats.

We are proud to announce that Nantucket Race Week was certified as a Clean Regatta by Sailors for the Sea in 2009, achieved gold-level certification in 2010, and will continue our efforts in 2011.   We want to do all we can to protect Nantucket's pristine environment.  Some of the Clean Regatta initiatives that we are implementing are:
   No discharge in the harbor
   Bilge sponges for every boat
Recycle glass, plastic, metal and paper
"Green team" to collect trash and recyclables
   Water refill stations
   Use of reusable water bottles
   Encourage green cleaning products
   Promote environmentally friendly bottom paint
   Use bicycles and public transportation
   Support land-based water quality initiatives

Nantucket Race Week is hosted by the Nantucket Yacht Club and the Great Harbor Yacht Club to benefit Nantucket Community Sailing (NCS), a non-profit, educational organization that provides affordable access to sailing and water sports to the public. Now in its 16th year, NCS served over 2000 sailors last year, providing free equipment and instruction through many community outreach programs, including sponsoring and coaching Nantucket's High School Sailing Team, offering scholarships to year-round island youth, running informal sailboat races for all levels and teaching adaptive windsurfing and rowing clinics for disabled athletes.
