Race Week News
Countdown to NRW and OHC!
July 30, 2020
Dear Nantucket Race Week and Opera House Cup volunteers, sponsors, and participants,
In just nine days the 17th annual Nantucket Race Week and 48th annual Opera House Cup Regatta will begin. While this year will be different from other years, we are having racing most of the days with something for everyone: kiteboards, the new radio-controlled Dragon Flite 95s, Opti's, 420's, local one design boats, women in Rhodes 19s, adult and youth lasers, Hobie 16s, and the wonderful wooden boats of the OHC. We are grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, staff, and participants for making this week possible.
There are significant changes in Race Week to comply with the Phase III guidelines to ensure everyones' safety. All shore-based gatherings (skippers' meetings, awards ceremonies, social events) are cancelled for this year, and the yacht clubs (and their launches) are restricted to members. However, you can still purchase NRW merchandise online and pick it up at the Nantucket Community Sailing office. Sponsor gift bags and awards can also be picked up at the Nantucket Community Sailing office.
We encourage everyone's understanding of the changes and cooperation to make this a safe and fun event. Key requirements for all competitors include:
- All participants must wear face coverings
- Social distancing is required
- We encourage frequent hand washing and/or hand sanitizing
- Massachusetts requires a 14 day quarantine (or negative PCR test) for all visitors to the state, EXCEPT those from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Please do your part to keep yourself and Nantucket safe by complying with these guidelines.
We look forward to seeing you on the water!
